December networking event
at the Robert Morris Art Gallery. Farah Salim was presented her
certificate for Communications Excellence by President-Elect Lisa
Rigoni. The Matrix Foundation for Communications Excellence is based
on three elements: on-the-job accomplishments, volunteer activities
and continuing education. It is earned through a series of points
awarded for such activities as managing a successful public
relations or marketing program, attending or teaching communications
courses and chairing a committee for a non-profit organization, to
list just a few examples you can pick from.

A panel of media representatives was on hand
at the October 9 "Working with the Media" workshop to answer questions and opportunities and share best
practices with local communications professionals. The media panel
included: Rudy Davenport, Capital City Courier; Kevin Hughey,
Assignment Editor, WICS-TV; Jim Leach, News Director, WMAY-AM; and
Erin Orr, Features Editor, State Journal-Register. The newest
edition of “Making News in Mr. Lincoln’s
Hometown”, a media directory and guide book was available for
purchase at the workshop.
The event and directory was
co-sponsored by the Association for Women in Communications and The
Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce. To purchase a media

Springfield AWC members helped collect
much-needed school supplies for students at a local middle school.
Items such as folders, notebooks, pencils, pens, scissors, crayons
and more were delivered to Washington Middle School, 2300 E.
Jackson, on August 28, 2007. Pictured above is Co-VP Communications,
